Cavestomp bands
> know if anyone can tell me about Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, Dr.

Thee Michelle Gun Elephant are one of my favourite groups of the last
couple of years. They take equal measures of 70s pub rock, 60s garage, punk
(The Damned of course) and are crazy for Thee Headcoats too. They're such
big Childish fans in fact that when their record label, Columbia, offered
them recording time at RCA's Tokyo studios they opted to take the money it
would cost and fly to London to record at Toe Rag instead. I've seen them a
dozen times and would go to Cavestomp even if they were the only band on
the bill that I liked. In Japan their last album sold around half a million
copies and their singles have been in the top ten. (I know that usually
wouldn't be much of a recommendation! But we're talking Japan here where
nothing's quite the same as the rest of the globe!) Cavestomp this year
will be full of teenaged Japanese girls, lemme tell ya! When TMGE played at
the DWC the Japanese chicks were lined up outside two hours before the
doors were due to open. And oh boy, those girls were moist with excitement
and anticipation!
Dr Explosion can be rather eclectic but as a live band they're hell of a
lot of fun. Tons of punk rock energy on 60s garage and instro sounds. You
can always trust the Spanish to put their all into it. And these guys
certainly do that!
Los Sexareenos...I heard their name around but never seen or heard them.
Maybe that's something I need to remedy. Someone else tell me.
The Movies...I have a single on the Chesterfield Kings' label - which is
pretty good 60s style garage. Guess they must be from New York state...?
Hope that helps a little... -- PJ
