Introduction to the garage

>>How many of you out there are young enough
>>that your introduction to garage music WAS/IS
>>through '80s bands.

I was at a rockabilly club in the late 80s and the DJ played something by
The Sonics. I just had to find out some more about this stuff! Fortunately
a friend of mine, Sean (now resident in Vancouver), had a lot of 60s
records stacked right next to his rockabilly collection. He taped a bunch
of stuff off Back From The Grave and Pebbles and so on - giving me a good
idea of what I wanted to look for myself. Then some guy started using a
local venue to put on bands like The Mystreated, The Nuthins, The Nerve,
The Aardvarks, etc. The 60s garage crowd were very different from the
(majority of) rockabillies, they were very welcoming to this bloke with his
motorcyle boots, leather jacket, Levis and big old quiff! -- PJ
