Lyres, schmyers
Mike's report of the Lyres show at the Tune Inn sounds pretty typical to me. At the expense of incurring the wrath of 90% of people on this list, I've always thought the Lyres were pretty damn boring back in 'the day', compared to most of the other bands out there. This is my opinion, and I know I'm outnumbered. Granted, I hsve seen some great Lyres shows, and I was really impressed with their set when I saw them for the first time in ages opening for ? at the Met in Providence (depite having to look at Jeff's gut spilling out of his too-small orange shirt), but by the next week's show at Coney Island High, I was back to bored (and he was back in his too-small orange shirt. what an abuse of a great color). But the booze does take it's toll. Despite a coupla bouts with sobriety, seems to me Connely has spent the past few decades being not much more than a drunken domestic abuser, with a couple good songs/shows coming up every now and then. He always has been, and probably always will be an asshole. In the rest of our worlds, this wouldn't be tolerated, but then again, this is rock & roll, right?
